Can ABS for metal injection molding?

Do you know how to make Apple watch adapter?. It  is  made by metal injection molding process. Metal injection molding can OEM custom stamping part.

Then can it make ABS products like plastic injection molding?

The answer is No…

Though both are injection process, but materials are completely different. Now let’s see the material characters for ABS.

ABS material with good comprehensive performance, namely the high impact toughness and good mechanical properties. Excellent heat resistance, oil resistance and chemical stability, stable dimension, easy to machining, surface can also be electroplated and coated. Widely be used in car decoration and home appliance products

Strong moisture absorption, less than 0.3% moisture content, to dry before injection molding, 70 ~ 80 ℃ drying temperature for 2 ~ 4 h

ABS cannot stay too long in plastic injection machine, easy to aging and decomposition (decomposition temperature is about 250 ℃),the general temperature is 180 ~ 230 ℃.When mixed with recycled materials, should pay attention to control the proportion,  generally not more than 20%
