Two most prominent advantages for fast development of MIM powder
metallurgy:
(1) It can manufacture parts that are unable to manufacture or
difficult to manufacture with other
process at present, such as parts with porous, sweating, shock absorption and insulation,
products with refractory metals like tungsten, molybdenum and titanium, and
other composite metal-plastic, bi-metal materials and products.
(2) can produce desirable or
close to desirable products directly, and reduce or eliminate machining with up
to 95% utilization of materials. Powder metallurgy can also replace copper with
iron to save materials and energy for some items.
