The mold temperature is controlled by the
cooling medium (usually water) In the process of powder metallurgy injection
molding(http://www.zcmim.com/)
which determines the cooling speed of the plastic melt. The
lower the mold temperature and the faster the cooling speed, the melt
temperature decreases more rapidly which induce the increased melt viscosity, injection
pressure loss increased, and even lead to a serious shortage of mold filling.
With the increase of the mold temperature,
the melt flow increases, then the mold filling pressure decreases and the
surface quality of the product is improved; but because of the cooling long time
can induce the productivity of the product is decreased, and the molding
shrinkage rate of the product is increased. For crystalline plastics, because
of the high temperature is good to crystallization, so increasing the temperature
of the mold can improve the density of the product or structural crystal. In
the higher mold temperature products, the polymer relaxation process is fast,
the molecular orientation and internal stress will be reduced.
